The Charoen Pokphand Group of Thailand has dominated the poultry industry in the Pacific Rim countries, with operations in Taiwan, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Turkey and other countries in the area. It has also diversified from chicken and shrimp to such businesses as telephones, motorcycles and shopping centers. Its sales totaled $6.5 billion in 1995, increasing 200% from 1992 levels. It also plans to conquer the US market as it is poised to acquire a chicken processing plant in the country, in addition to its chicken farms in Maine, Kentucky and Texas.
