What is called a revolutionary contamination detection system to fill the gap between traditional magnetic metal detectors and full-fledged x-ray imaging systems has been developed by Thermo Electron Corp.

The Goring Kerr EZx[TM] offers the simplicity of a metal detector, low total cost of ownership and the enhanced detection capability/sensitivity of an x-ray system, the company says. Sensitivities for ferrous, non-ferrous and stainless steel contaminants are said to be as good, or in many cases better, than with competing metal detectors.
