Food fight! Food Fight! No, this isn't the classic John Belushi film comedy Animal House, but a bruising battle for market share among American frozen food companies that has been raging for months and shows no sign of abating.
Duking it out in the frozen food aisles are the leading producers of frozen entrees in the United States: H.J. Heinz (Smart Ones, Boston Market and TGI Friday), ConAgra (Healthy Choice, Marie Callender's and Banquet) and Nestle (Lean Cuisine, Hot Pockets and Stouffer's).
While Heinz does not break out frozen food sales in its financial statements, the company is the second-largest provider of frozen prepared meals in the US. Smart Ones holds a 27% share, TGI Friday's, 17%, and Ore-Ida has a 50% share in the retail potato...
