Mid-size banks per-customer revenue champs.(Brief Article)

Andersen Consulting did a profitability analysis that breaks down costs and revenue per customer in financial services companies. The Andersen Consulting Customer Index, the consulting firm says, is designed give financial services companies a standard basis of comparison at a time when banks and non-banks alike are preparing to delve into new lines of business. Among banks, those in the mid-sized category ($10 to $35 billion) fared best, generating--at nearly $156--the highest average per customer revenues. This belies the notion that the greatest size offers advantage, as the difficulties of managing a large retail presence and the expense of enhancing customer service in remote channels such as the web cut into profitability.
