Cable & Wireless (Ja.) has handed over a check for J$21.8 million (US$484,000) to Minister of Commerce and Technology, Phillip Paulwell to be used to fund scholarships at the Caribbean Institute of Technology (CIT), reports CANA (Aug. 25, 2001). The money is the second tranche in an overall J$48 million (US$1.06 million) contribution, over three years, committed to by the company when it signed the agreement with the Government in September 2000, to liberalize the telecommunications industry. The funds are being used to finance 200 scholarships at CIT.
