The Bahamas has regained its Category One status, which it lost last year due to certain Safety violations, from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), reports CMC (Nov. 18, 2001). The reclassification came after an FAA team on Nov. 13 certified that the safety oversight now provided by the Bahamas Civil Aviation Authority complied fully with the aviation safety standard mandated by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the International Aviation Safety Assessment program of the FAA. Minister of Transport, Aviation and Local Government, C.A. Smith said the reclassification meant that all restrictions previously placed on Bahamian registered air carriers, as a result of being
