NEW FISHERIES COMPLEX. Antigua opened a Japanese-funded fisheries complex that will help it develop the industry so it can export fish, officials said, reports AP (Jan. 26, 2006). The US$8.5 million (euro6.9 million) complex has berthing, processing and storage facilities. It was the third Japanese-funded fisheries complex to open in Antigua, said Shigenobu Kato, Japan's ambassador to the Eastern Caribbean.

Antigua & Barbuda (population: 70,000)hopes to export fish to the United Kingdom, said Joanne Massiah, the minister responsible for food production and marine resources.
