State-run TV here prides itself on its educational programs and the social values of its homegrown soap operas but does not shy away from hits like "Law & Order" and "CSI", reports AFP (Jan. 25, 2007). The US series and the soap operas, known as "telenovelas", draw a faithful audience. But the education-oriented programs also have their fans in a country that boasts a 98% literacy rate.
