Antigua's Financial Services Regulatory Commission will help Britains's struggling BetOnSports PLC collect its debts to pay bettors and employees, the government said, reports AP (Feb. 22, 2007). Clive Archer, BetOnSports director, said the company has been hampered by the "slow return of funds owed to us and we hope that this will give debtors the reassurance they need to swiftly pay." The company said in August that it would stop operating in Costa Rica and Antigua, from where it accepted bets from thousands of US customers, following a US federal court order to stop taking bets from that country and return deposits paid by US bettors.
