Negotiations among Gov. Luis Fortuno, Puerto Rico Tourism Co. (PRTC) Exec. Dir. Jaime Lopez Diaz and American Airlines (AA) resulted in the decision to reinstate the popular Washington Dulles route and increase flight frequency to and from Chicago, Boston and Los Angeles, reports Caribbean Business (June 4, 2009).
New flights will go into effect Nov. 19. Airline spokeswoman Minnette Velez said the accord will increase American Airlines' daily flights to 23, effective Nov. 19, up from its current 20 flights. This is the second time AA has increased flight frequency or reinstated routes since last September's decision to drastically reduce its local airlift.
