The spring 1999 edition of the Food Marketing Institute's Supermarket Industry Convention in Chicago, IL, highlighted some of the most innovative trends in food products marketing. The event, which showcased such trends as product convenience, ready-to-heat, ready-to-eat, value-added and 'eatertainment,' also gave a preview of the increasing sophistication of today's consumers. A notable trend is the entry of branded food products in the fresh food category.
