The New York City Department of Environmental Protection has awarded a four-year worldwide contract to URS Corporation (New York, New York) to inspect components used in the city's over-$1-billion-a-year water and wastewater construction program.

The contract includes monitoring, inspecting, and shop-testing the manufacture and performance of mechanical equipment, metals, and coatings used in the city's water and wastewater treatment facilities.

The objective of the project, the first of its kind for New York, is to ensure that equipment and materials purchased for and installed by city contractors are manufactured and tested in accordance with the city's specifications, procedures, and drawings.
