EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT URGES PROMOTION OF ALTERNATIVE ENERGY SOURCES

At its January 18-22 plenary session in Strasbourg the European Parliament adopted a Resolution on the promotion of renewable forms of energy. The Resolution looks at the political management of renewable forms of energy and stresses their importance from a number of angles. It also criticises the European Commission and Council of Ministers for the short-sighted approach and lack of commitment to promoting alternative sources of energy.
The Commission's administrative management in this domain comes under attack too and suggestions are made to improve it. After examining the state of technology in renewables, the Resolution sets out a series of proposals designed to ensure their promotion in future.
