FISHERIES : MEPS WANT MORE CLOUT IN BETTER REGULATION.

The European Parliament's opinion on the European Commission's 2006-2008 action plan for simplifying the Common Fisheries Policy, adopted during the EP's plenary session on 6 September, proved to be another occasion for MEPs to insist that they are not sidelined in the EU's drive towards better regulation'.
The action plan was presented by the Commission in December 2005 and has a particular focus on addressing legislative instruments already in force and which need to be simplified as a matter of priority, including those related to the setting of Total Allowable Catches (TACs) and quotas, and technical measures for protecting certain fish stocks.
