EU/IAEA : JOINT COMMITTEE TO PROMOTE COOPERATION IN NUCLEAR SAFETY.

A high-level Liaison Committee between the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the European Commission was relaunched' in Vienna. The committee reviews nuclear safeguards and is now chaired by IAEA Deputy Director-General Olli Heinonen and Dominique Ristori, Deputy Director-General of the European Commission's Directorate General for Energy and Transport. This was Ristori's first time at the meeting, held on 18 January. A follow-up is now planned for the second half of 2007. The EU delegation was also composed of representatives from the current German EU Presidency as well as the previous Finnish and future Portuguese Presidencies.
