FISHERIES : EP WANTS TO BOOST SUPPORT FOR OUTERMOST REGIONS.

Members of the European Parliament want to increase by 2 million a year the budget for outermost regions to compensate for the additional costs incurred in the marketing of certain fishery products, due to increases in energy and transport costs.

With its adoption on 25 April of the non-amended Freitas Duarte (EPP-ED, Portugal)areport on compensation to the fisheries sectors or very remote regions, the European Parliament's message to the European Commission and Council is that the particularities of these regions have to be taken further into consideration.
