EUROPEAN INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY : ONLY MINOR DIFFERENCES BETWEEN EP AND COUNCIL ON EIT REGULATION.

The Portuguese EU Presidency has confirmed that almost all the ingredients are in place for an agreement between the European Parliament and the Council on the regulation to set up a European Institute of Technology.

Speaking at the meeting of the Competitiveness Council on 28 September, Portuguese Science Minister Mariano Gago emphasised that, as regards the text of the regulation, the institutions have only "minor differences". He highlighted especially the fact that both the EP and the Council agree on the total amount which should be made available from the Community budget to finance the EITa- namely 308.7 million up to 2013.
