NO DECISION ON FOUR GMOS.

On 10 October, the Standing Committee on the Food Chain and Animal Health returned, as usual on this matter, no definitive opinion either for or against European Commission proposals to authorise three genetically modified maize varieties and a GM potato. As a result, the Commission must now transmit the dossiers to Council.

If the Council does not reach a position within the next few months, the proposals will be sent back to the Commission for final adoption. The proposals, based on favourable scientific assessments from the European Food Safety Authority, aim for the authorisation of three maize varietiesa- Mon863xNK603, Mon863xMon810 and Mon863xMon810xNK603 - for food and feed use and for import and processing, but not for cultivation.The Commission is...
