ROME I' AGREEMENT.

EU justice and home affairs meeting at the Justice and Home Affairs Council on 7 December have approved an agreement reached with the European Parliament on the Rome I' regulation, which sets out rules for deciding which national law should be used in cross-border disputes relating to breach of contract.

The new rules will effectively serve to update and replace the existing Rome Convention, an international treaty dating back to 1980. The regulation sets out rules on how choice of law' decisions should be made for a variety of different situations, including consumer contracts, employment contracts, and well as contracts relating to the transport of goods and people.
