EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT : MEPS LEND SUPPORT, MATCHED WITH RECOMMENDATIONS.

The European Parliament's main political groups have voiced virtually unanimous support for the European Commission's energy-climate package, though some attach recommendations to their backing. As soon as President Jose Manuel Barroso had left the Commission meeting, on 23 January, he went straight to the European Parliament in Brussels to take part in an extraordinary plenary session convened for the occasion.
Speaking on behalf of the EPP-ED, Marianne Thyssen (Belgium) observed that the action programme had been "well thought out". "The EPP supports your five key proposals" as well as the differentiated approach, but that approach "must be founded on fair transparency criteria".
