ENERGY-CLIMATE PACKAGE : PRESIDENCY GETS DECISION-MAKING BALL ROLLING.

On 24 January, Janez Podobnik, Slovenia's environment minister and president-in-office of the EU Council, kicked off the decision-making process on the energy-climate package presented by the European Commission the day before. He convened an informal meeting in Brussels with representatives of the next three EU Presidencies (France, the Czech Republic and Sweden), the European Commission and a European Parliament delegation, for the purpose of drawing up a work programme and timeframe. The objective is final agreement no later than spring 2009.
