EMF DIRECTIVE DEADLINE DEFERRED.

Europe Environment, February, 2008

The European Parliament approved, on 19 February, the deferment of the deadline for the transposition of Directive 2004/40 on the exposure of workers to electromagnetic fields to 30 April 2012. This amendment of the directive accurately resumes the European Commission's proposal of October (see Europolitics 3402).

It could quickly enter into force. The 27 member states, in an ultra-rapid examination at the Social Questions Group, on 25 January, and at Coreper (the Committee of Permanent Representatives), on 13 February, also approved this amendment, which is expected to be ratified during a forthcoming Council of Ministers.
