TRANSPARENCY : CEMR: REGIONS AND MUNICIPALITIES ARE NOT LOBBYISTS.

The Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR) is asking the European Parliament to distinguish local and regional governments from commercial and professional lobbyists intervening in the EU decision-making process. The call came following the vote in the EP's Constitutional Affairs Committee on 1 April on a report by MEP Alexander Stubb (see article above).

The same day, the CEMR had sent a letter to MEPs explaining that the representatives of local and regional bodies "are not of the same nature as professional lobbyist, private companies or NGOs".
