HEALTH : COMMISSION WANTS TO TAKE ACTION AGAINST MEDICAL ERRORS.

The European Commission will make proposals to EU member states in late 2008 to help reduce the number of medical errors and "adverse events" in or outside hospitals, as well as to fight infection linked with healthcare more specifically. In this context, on 25 March, the EU executive launched a public consultation, running until 20 May, which sets out the guidelines of the future strategy.
According to the Commission's figures taken from several European and international studies, these accidents (medical or clinical errors, delays, errors in the choice or the dosage of medication, administrative problems, etc) arise in about 10% of hospital admissions.
