HEALTH : PARLIAMENT DEMANDS EUROPEAN CARD FOR ORGAN DONORS.

The European Parliament's Health Committee recommends several solutions, including the creation of a European donors' card to complement national systems, to remedy the serious shortage of organ donors in the EU as well as the risks linked to transplants. It is also about combating organ smuggling by establishing guidelines to protected the poorest and most vulnerable donors and adopting measures which increase the legal availability of organs, according to an own-initiative report by Adamos Adamou (GUE-NGL, Cyprus), adopted unanimously on 26 March in Brussels.

Member states must prevent insurance companies from refunding fees incurred during illegal transplants.
