ENERGY : GERMAN AND FRENCH CHAMBERS CALL FOR COST-EFFICIENT ENERGY POLICY.
Europe Environment, April, 2008
The German (DIHK) and French (ACFCI) chambers of commerce and industry want EU decision makers to achieve greater cost efficiency in their climate and energy policy. At a conference in the European Parliament, on 7 April, the chambers presented a joint position paper criticising the bureaucracy of the Emission Trading Scheme and the lack of cost efficiency of current schemes for renewable energy promotion. They also note that energy efficiency must remain "central" in the EU's energy and climate policy objectives. Despite the growthaopportunities for many economic sectors, Marie-Elisabeth Rusling, ACFCI's European affairs director, is worried that "ambitious" renewable energy targets "could threaten competitiveness, in particular of energyaintensive industries"....
