Summary:

On the fourth anniversary of the Piper Alpha North Sea oil rig disaster, the European Parliament endorsed a Council of Ministers' common position on a proposed EC Directive on the safety in oil exploration and other extractive industries. However, the MEPs rejected a Council common position on a proposed Directive on labels to indicate the energy consumption of household goods. They also rejected a motion calling for an immediate halt to the reprocessing of nuclear waste in the Community.
