Portugal's hydro-electric power production reached 8,584 gigawatt hours in 1993, compared with 5,000 in 1992, reports the news agency Lusa. The increase was said to be due to the amount of rain in 1993. Hydro-power provides 5%-7% of Portugal's energy. However, last year's rise was not large enough to substantially dent energy imports, which remained at around 90%.
