SHELL AND BP ANNOUNCE POSITIVE TESTS ON NEW OIL FIELD IN NORTH SEA

The British company BRITISH PETROLEUM and the Anglo-Dutch company ROYAL DUTCH SHELL, have announced that drilling tests on a new oil deposit in the North Sea have been successfully completed. Tests in the field 190 kilometres West of the Shetland islands were carried out between August and September and allowed the extraction of 437,000 barrels of crude oil, at a rate of 17,800 barrels per day.

Drilling took place on a 4,377 metre well in the 204/24a block, the operating licence for which is owned 80% by BP and 20% by SHELL.
