WINTERSHALL, the gas subsidiary of BASF, the German chemical group, has signed a joint venture agreement with ROMGAZ, the state-owned Romanian gas company, to import and sell Russian gas on the Romanian market. WINTERSHALL, which is hoping to break the gas monopoly of RUHRGAS, in Germany, has a 5% stake in EUROPOL, the Polish state-owned gas company.
