GREECE SIGNS REVISED GAS DEAL WITH RUSSIA'S GAZPROM

The Greek authorities have signed a revised agreement with GAZPROM, the Russian state-owned gas supplier, to import natural gas from 1996 through a pipeline from Bulgaria. The new agreement also provides for PROMETHEUS, a joint venture between GAZPROM and KOPELOUZOS, of Greece, to build a 400 MW coal-fired power station in northern Greece, in a turnkey contract for DEH, the Greek state-run power company, and to supply equipment for two hydro -electric plants being built in central Greece.
