PRIVATISATION IN EUROPEAN NUCLEAR INDUSTRY

Europe Energy, September, 1995

Against the background of the current UK moves to privatise its nuclear industry, European Energy Commissioner Christos Papoutsis said in reply to a recent written question from a Member of the European Parliament that at present nuclear energy for the production of electricity is privatised in Belgium, Germany and Spain (although in Spain the state is a major shareholder in the owner/operator company).

In addition, he went on, one third of Sweden s 1,800 MW capacity is in private hands, and in Finland 61% is privatised.
