RENEWABLE ENERGY: FARMERS PLEASED WITH COMMISSION WHITE PAPER

Summary:

COPA and COGECA, the two organisations representing European farmers and agricultural cooperatives have issued a statement welcoming the fact that in its November 26 White Paper on a Community strategy and action plan for promoting renewable sources of energy, the European Commission has recognised agriculture as a key sector in doubling the share of renewables in total EU energy consumption by 2010 (see previous two issues of Europe Energy for details of the White Paper). However, they regret that the Commission only refers in its strategy and action plan to Agenda 2000 proposals for the farm sector.
