RUSSIA DENIES CUTTING GAS SUPPLIES TO GREECE.

The Russian gas monopoly Gazprom said it was delivering as much gas to Greece as had been agreed under contract, rejecting Greek complaints that supplies had become erratic. The contract between Gazprom and Greece for 1998 was for 1. 6 billion cubic metres (bcm) of gas, but the Greek state gas company DEPA only asked for 1.

It appears that Greece has found itself unable to receive such large volumes of gas because of lack of demand and it only consumed 866 million cubic metres in 1998.
