Car manufacturers and CO2 deal.The Ministers took note of the terms of an Agreement the European Commission negotiated with Japanese (YAMA) and South Korean (KAMA) car manufacturers in a bid to minimise CO2 emissions from new cars. Under the terms of the Agreement, the Japanese and South Korean car manufacturers' associations undertake to restrict CO2 emissions from new cars to 140 gr of CO2/Km between now and 2009 at the latest.

European manufacturers, represented by ACEA, gave an undertaking, in July 1998, to achieve this same objective by 2008, that is one year earlier.
