Italian electricity group Enel has signed a protocol agreement with the American energy company Echelon Corporation to set up a remote-control system with their clients. Under the terms of the protocol, Enel will use the LONWorks technology developed by Echelon for its digital electric meter project which will enable meters to be managed from a distance, according to the Italian group.
The new system will give customers the chance to have more precise and rapid means of measuring their power consumption, with the possibility of customised pricing and energy savings written into their electricity bills.
