The European Commission's Environment Directorate-General has issued a call for tenders for a study on the fiscal measures related to the emission of carbon dioxide from cars (Official Journal of the European Communities No S 104 of 31.05.2000, p 36). The two main strands of the study should gather information on relevant and comparable carbon dioxide taxes, and identify and assess appropriate measures that should be part of a reference framework for fiscal incentives.Existing data on the current fiscal systems in Member States should be updated, including experience with already implemented carbon dioxide-related fiscal frameworks.
