GAZPROM, GDF/RUHRGAS/SNAM IN ALLIANCE ON CZECH-SLOVAK PRIVATISATION.

The Russian gas giant Gazprom and the Franco-German-Italian consortium formed by Gaz de France, Ruhrgas and SNAM are keen to join forces on the privatisation of the Czech gas company Transgas and the Slovak operator SPP, according to reports in the Czech economic weekly Euro. Over the next two months, Gas-Invest, Gazprom's Czech subsidiary, is expected to pool its lot with the Franco-German-Italian consortium to bid for the Czech firm.

This alliance should significantly improve their chances of success in the face of international competition, notably from the German group RWE Gas/Wintershall, according to Euro.
