FORTUM AND ENEL APPLY TO MANAGE RUSSIAN POWER STATION.

Europe Energy, February, 2004

The Finnish company Fortum and Italian company Enel are in the final phase of tendering for management of the North-Western thermal power station, near St. Petersburg. Enel is applying in partnership with the Russian group ESN. The power station has been active since 2000 and serves St Petersburg and surroundings.

The first block of the power plant has a 450 MW capacity and should reach 1,800 MW once extensions are completed. The monopoly SEU has embarked on a huge electricity reform process stretching into 2005 and is therefore trying to attract the investment needed to modernise the country's electricity infrastructure.
