Europe Energy, April, 2004
An Altener project financed by the European Commission has shown that over 1.6 million jobs could be created by 2010 thanks to the implementation of European policy to promote renewable energy sources. Biofuels, biomass and wind energy would account for 80% of job creation in the non-agricultural sector. The MITRE project (Monitoring and Modelling Initiative on the Targets for Renewable Energy) also shows that European targets could be met if a proactive policy to achieve the targets were adopted (by 2010, 12% renewables out of total EU primary energy consumption, 22.1% green electricity out of total EU electricity consumption and 5.75% biofuels out of total fuel consumption).
