Europe Energy, July, 2004

* Nuclear Energy Data 2004: the latest official statistics published by the OECD's Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA) reveal that nuclear electricity production in OECD member countries fell by almost 2% in 2003 compared to 2002. Inspections and closures for extended maintenance Japan and the United States are the principal cause of this decline. These figures are drawn from the recently published 2004 edition of Nuclear Energy Data, a publication known as the "Brown Book". It offers an overview on the status of and trends in the nuclear power and fuel cycle sector in OECD countries and contains projections up to 2020. It is regarded as the reference in terms of nuclear power statistics.
