RENEWABLES INDUSTRY ANNOUNCES PRIORITIES.

The proper implementation of Directives on renewables should take priority over the harmonisation of support mechanisms within the European Union, according to the European Renewable Energy Council (EREC). During a dinner-debate at the European Parliament on January 24, EREC Chairman Arthuros Zervos outlined his grievances to the European Commission. "As long as serious market distortions in the conventional power markets exist, we should refrain from talking about the new renewables market", he warned, singling out effective competition as a "precondition" for the harmonisation of support systems for green electricity.
