EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT REPORT ON ENERGY EFFICIENCY PUT ON ICE.

A report by German Socialist MEP Mechtild Rothe on the draft Energy Efficiency Directive will be tabled before the Industry Committee on April 20 rather than March 17. It is then due to be adopted on its first reading at the June 6-9 plenary session in Strasbourg. With the high number of amendments tabled (250 just from the Industry and Energy Committee and around 100 from other European Parliament committees), MEPs officially decided to give themselves more time to reflect. At the heart of discussions are energy efficiency targets and ways to measure them. MEPs are divided on whether or not to make these targets compulsory.
