BP, PARTNERS PLAN CLEAN ENERGY PLANT IN SCOTLAND.

Oil giant BP PLC and its partners Royal Dutch/Shell, ConocoPhillips and Scottish & Southern Energy PLC are planning to build a clean energy plant near Peterhead in Scotland at a cost of UK[pounds sterling]600 million. The plant, which could come on stream in 2009, would convert natural gas to hydrogen and carbon dioxide gases, then use the hydrogen gas as fuel for a 350MW power station. The carbon dioxide would be exported to a North Sea oil reservoir for increased oil recovery and ultimate storage.

BP said the project would reduce the amount of carbon dioxide emitted to the atmosphere by the power generation by over 90% and would provide carbon-free electricity to the equivalent of a quarter of a million UK homes. Initial engineering feasibility studies into...
