SIEMENS/DOOSAN CONSORTIUM AWARDED CONTRACT IN SAUDI ARABIA.

Europe Energy, January, 2006

A consortium set up by the German Siemens group and South Korea's Doosan Heavy Industries and Construction has been awarded a euro 1.8 billion contract for the construction of an electricity-generating and fresh water facility in Saudi Arabia. The facility will be located 110 km from Jeddah.

Siemens will deliver the power-generating plant to Saudi Arabia's Shuaibah Water and Electricity Company (SWEC). The 900MW plant should be operational by the end of 2009. The power station will be coupled with a seawater desalination plant delivered by Doosan, producing about 880,000 m3 of fresh water daily.
