NUCLEAR ENERGY : CONDITIONAL GREEN LIGHT TO TOSHIBA'S TAKEOVER OF WESTINGHOUSE.

The proposed acquisition of the Anglo-American group Westinghouseaby the Japanese conglomerate Toshiba, both active in the nuclear sector, has been found to comply with EU merger regulations. The Commission therefore authorised the operation on 19 September on condition that Toshiba respects its commitment to modify its contractual arrangements with other shareholders in its joint venture Global Nuclear Fuels. This being the case, the Commission concluded that the proposed transaction would not significantly impede competition and would not have any negative impact on European customers or on the safety of energy supply in Europe.
