As talks on the strategy for dealing with CO2 pollution from cars seem to be making little headway, another battle - more in the shadows - is livening up the European Commission's corridors. What cars will the European commissioners be driving tomorrow? Indeed, the Berlaymont fleet has to be renewed in the coming weeks and discussions are in full swing.
The choice of mainly German makes (Mercedes, Audi, etc) seems to suit most of the commissioners, who have no plans to make any major driving changes. Environment Commissioner Stravros Dimas seems to be the only one willing to set an example and to put into practice the European strategy on climate change.
