LUKOIL CLEARED TO BUY CONOCOPHILLIPS.

Europe Energy, March, 2007

On 21 February, the European Commission gave the go-ahead for Russian oil and gas company Lukoil to acquire six subsidiaries of US firm ConocoPhillips. Theasubsidiaries operate petrol stations in Belgium, Finland, Luxembourg, Poland, Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic. The only overlaps were in petrol retail in Finland, Hungary and Poland andasecondary distribution storage in Finland.

They were not significant enough, however, to enable Lukoil to affect prices or supply post merger. (RMI)
