NUCLEAR ENERGY INaIRAN.

Europe Energy, April, 2007

Iran must cooperate fully with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), reiterated the European Commission on 9 April after the announcement from Tehran that Iran had launched industrial uranium enrichment. "Our position is well-known and unchanging: Iran is expected to cooperate fully with the IAEA and comply with the United Nations resolutions," confirmed a Commission spokesperson on 10 April (see Europolitics 3276).

The world's larger powers fear that the Islamic Republic may start using its civilian programme for military purposes and develop an atomic bomb, despite repeated denials from Tehran. (EVP)
