French President Nicholas Sarkozy appears to be pouring even more cold water on European Commission hopes for a single European energy market free of conflicting national' pressures. The latest cause for concern was a report on 23 July in the German business weekly Wirtschaftwoche. Accordingly, Sarkozy now favours ditching German industrial giant Siemens as a shareholder of nuclear constructor Areva. Following this Sarkozian logic of strengthening French national interests, Areva could then merge with Alstom, in the field of energy and engineering, and Bouygues, for construction. According to the reports, the head of this exclusively French energy giant would be Alstom boss Patrick Kron.
The French government and Areva so far refuse to comment the rumours'....
